Renegade London Wine held an open competition in December 2017, where they asked hundreds of London based designers & illustrators to come up with a proposal for their 2017 wine labels… I was over the moon to find out I won the pitch!
I was commissioned to illustrate over 26.000 bottles of red, white, rose and champagne! Similar to my “Where’s Willem” Orange Illustration and last year’s Red “Dutch Elections” – my winning proposal was to design a hyper detailed winelabel capturing the London outdoor drinking culture in all its glory.
Initial Design Concept:
As Renegade is launching over 10 different types of wine throughout 2018, part of my winning proposal was to create a different colour illustration for each wine, alongside matching Pantone coloured wax. The first 4 wines have now been released: Nat Fiz (white), Bacchus (pink), Sauvignon Blanc (yellow) and Rosé (blue). The remaining 6 wines will be released sporadically throughout 2018, all in their bespoke colour!
The background features famous buildings, important landmarks and typical London architecture, whereas the foreground is completely filled with miniature people drinking, making & enjoying wine! I wanted to include real Londoners, so I had hundreds of people send me a picture of themselves holding a glass of wine, downing a bottle or cheerse-ing with champagne, and hid them in the design somewhere… creating an interactive Where’s-Wally-esque illustration.
